Environmental Horticulture Advisor
Time with ANR
30 years 4 months
Hodel develops and implements applied research projects and educational programs for the commercial landscape and related industries in Los Angeles. Some daily activities include meeting with clientele to discuss landscape and tree issues; working on research projects at UC facilities or in the landscape; photographing trees and plants; writing about my research; extending information; making presentations; and answering questions by email.
Most Memorable Moment
This question is a bit difficult because I have too many to choose. However, if I had to select just one moment, it would be when I share information with clients and I see the I-get-it expression on their faces, I know it's a great moment. Or, perhaps, when I am away on a trip out in the field, especially in a foreign country, photographing trees and palms for research projects and for use in educational programs.
What I love Most About Working for ANR
I love the freedom to design and implement research projects and educational programs the way I want to do them.
I was working in the nursery/landscape industry and I needed a better job, one with higher pay and better benefits. I knew the advisor in San Diego County and he told me about an opening in Los Angeles County. Guess who got the job?
