Richard P. Buchner

UCCE Tehama County
Pomology Advisor/County Director
Time with ANR
32 years
Typical Day

My position is an Orchard farm Advisor for Tehama and neighboring counties.Orchard work varies with the time of year. In the Fall, following harvest, orchard farmers are interested in tree pruning principles and practices.Fall is also the time to plan orchard grower meetings.Tehama hosts a walnut grower meeting and a prune grower meeting in Feburary. In the spring, as trees begin to flower and leaf, questions usually involve frost protection and spring disease control. In the summer topics include include insect management. In a typical day I would meet with clientele, learn about their particular problem or question, discuss research based solutions and possibly design a research project to help identify the best possible solution.
