Typical Day

I'm a rice farm advisor. I assist rice growers and related industry with issues related to growing a successful rice crop. Typical day is spent answering questions from growers or consultants, planing and conducting experiments, analyzing data and writing reports and publications.

Most Memorable Moment

On the very first variety trial I planted, I wasn't prepared for how deep the water in the rice field was, and how soft the ground was. I also wasn't prepared for how cold it was in May (I came from Texas). I ended up planting rice without boots or pants and freezing.

What I love Most About Working for ANR

Being able to help growers and consultants obtain information that is useful and solves their problems.

My Story

I worked in rice in Texas for my graduate degree. My major professor is was a Davis graduate and had worked in California rice for his Ph.D. When I got the announcement for my position, I was encouraged to apply.
