Typical Day

A typical day for me starts at one of my 10 school sites at about 8:30 am. I do 20-minute lessons for about 10 classrooms a day. Our lesson always starts with a review of MyPlate and then we move into an activity focusing on a food group, physical activity, or even food safety. Once I am done with my lessons, I will work on nutrition corners at that school site or collect needed paperwork from teachers that I may not have seen already. After I finish up at my school site, I head back to the office to read emails and work on reporting and follow-up from my school. Then I prepare to do it all again for the next day! :)

Most Memorable Moment
What I love Most About Working for ANR

I love to see the students understand when I teach them about nutrition. Or to hear them say I am going to go home and eat more fruits and vegetables. Better yet is to see the teachers work toward having a healthier classroom, and to know that they are reinforcing what we teach. That is the best part, to see that our program is making a difference.

My Story

I graduated from California State University Fresno with my Bachelors of Science in Dietetics. I got my first job out of college with the Merced County Office of Education, where I learned a lot and gained a lot of experience working with teachers. However, I was commuting an hour one way every day and wanted something closer to home. I loved the work that UC CalFresh was doing in Fresno and applied as soon as there was a job opening. It took some time, but I am so glad to have a place with UC Cooperative Extension.
